BJP non-committal on Uma's letter to supporters Wednesday, November 17 2004 22:23 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Nov 17, 2004) sidestepped questions on suspended party leader Uma Bharti's letter to her supporters asking them to "keep mum" on the disciplinary action against her, saying it was "very clear" and did not require any comment.
"We have seen it (letter) only in the newspapers. The letter is very clear. It does not warrant any reaction," party spokesman Arun Jaitley told reporters in New Delhi.
In her letter, Bharti told supporters that she does not want to turn Madhya Pradesh into a "venue for show of my of strength" and asked them to "stand firmly" behind the party saying it was necessary as the country was passing through "grave crisis and difficulty".
Later, at a 'Diwali Milan' meeting with journalists, senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who is considered close to Bharti, said he was not aware about any move to revoke her suspension and that she was "in touch with both Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani".
A senior party leader said Bharti's letter showed that she had reacted at the party meeting on the "spur of the moment" and was now "cooling down".
