K'taka HC notice on B'lore-Mysore Corridor project Wednesday, November 17 2004 19:56 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
The Karnataka High Court today (Nov 17, 2004) ordered issue of notice to the State and other respondents including Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited in a writ petition praying for a direction to the authorities to forthwith execute the Bangalore-Mysore Corridor Project in its entirety.
The All India Manufacturers Association of Mumbai's branch in its petition stated that it was constrained to file the public interest writ petition in view of the tardy progress in implementation of the mega project.
It further submitted that the project was intended to decongest Bangalore city and promote industrial, commercial and economic growth without adversely affecting the environment in cities of Bangalore and Mysore.
The project also aimed at promoting job opportunities and accident-free travel between Bangalore and Mysore, the petitioner said.
The petitioner further pointed out that the State Government had entrusted the project, which envisages construction of 111 km four-lane expressway and 41 kms of peripheral road connecting national highways and State highways, to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited.
It was also stated that the respondent company had entered into agreement with the State on Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) basis.
The petitioner stated that earlier the writ petition challenging the execution of the project was dismissed by High Court.
When the petition came up from hearing today, the judges, Acting Chief Justice S R Nayak and Justice H N Nagamohan Das constituted a division bench, while ordering notice and adjourned further hearing of the petition to Dec 14.
