Kanchi Seer case: Man surrenders before the court Wednesday, November 17 2004 17:37 Hrs (IST)

A person, believed to be involved in the murder of Sankararaman, today (Nov 17, 2004) surrendered before a court in suburban Alanthur and was remanded to judicial custody.
Police said with the surrender of Ambikapathy, 18 persons have been held in connection with the murder of Sankararaman, manager of the Varadaraja Perumal temple on September 3.
Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is the prime accused in the case.
Jayendra is presently lodged in the central prison at Vellore after being remanded to judicial custody till November 26.
Police said after Ambikapathy surrendered, the Alanthur Judicial Magistrate Paramarajan remanded him to 15-days judicial custody. Later, he was lodged in the central prison in Chennai.
Police had produced two others, taken into custody in connection with the case, before the Kancheepuram First Class Judicial G Uttamarajan yesterday (Nov 16, 2004) for remand extension.
The court extended the judicial custody of one of the accused, Rajni, and extended the police custody by two days of the other accused, following a petition by police.
