Kanchi Varadarajaswamy temple is an epitome of compassion. People from far off places come there in search of God, truth and virtue. It was this temple that saw a gruesome sight one day when a righteous man was brutally murdered.

It was raining on the third of September. Shankarraman was at the temple office and just as the puja was about to begin, five men entered the temple in motorcycles and stabbed Shankarraman. They left so fast after their task that the so-called witnesses failed to catch even a glimpse of the fugitives.

Spotlight: Kanchi Jayendra Saraswathi's Arrest

The watchman came running and wanted to take the wounded Raman to the hospital but it was too late. He was already dead!

Now, the man who died in this story was not any other man in a gang nor was it a vengeance killing. According to his co-workers he was 'honesty' personified. He was always "up to the mark" with records and "up to the penny" with finances.

In addition to all the adulation he received for his straightforwardness, Shankarraman also acquired a considerable number of enemies who had a problem with "this" attitude of his. After he publicly declared about the misappropriation of funds in the Kanchi Math, the whole world knows what happened!

And thanks to his bold and honest approach, all that remains of him now is a memory, an arrest and a very BIG discussion.
