Seer's arrest: BJP MLAs walkout from TN Assembly Friday, November 19 2004 17:24 Hrs (IST)
Chennai:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLAs today (Nov 19, 2004) staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly when they were not allowed to raise the issue of the arrest of the Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi.
K N Lakshmanan, BJP legislature party leader and H Raja the deputy leader, told reporters after the walk out that they wanted to bring to Government's notice the "false information" given by the Government advocate in the Madras High Court yesterday that the Acharya had been remanded to police custody yesterday itself.
They alleged that the entire case against the Seer was "false and fabricated."
DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and PMK Pattali Makkal Katchi) MLAs also staged walkouts for different reasons.
DMK members walked out when the speaker did not allow its member P Swaminathan from raising an issue concerning his constituency, while PMK members trooped out on the plea that the police had "falsely" implicated one its MLAs R Velmurugan in a murder case.
