Strictly stick to Hindutva ideology: VHP tells BJP Saturday, November 20 2004 20:48 Hrs (IST)
Chandigarh:
In a stern warning to BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today (Nov 20, 2004) asked the saffron party not to soften its Hindutva agenda, otherwise a new political outfit protecting the interest of Hindus would be floated.
"There are talks going on within Hindu organisations, including VHP and the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), that if the BJP does not mend its ways, a new political outfit protecting the interest of Hindus will be floated," VHP general secretary Ashok Singhal said.
"This issue is being given serious consideration," he told the concluding session of the "National Chintan Shivir" in Chandigarh.
When the BJP-led Government came to power at the Centre, it was felt the interest of Hindus would be protected, but nothing happened of this sort, Singhal said.
"We will give them a chance, but if they fail to deliver we have other alternatives," he said.
The BJP, which had deviated from its Hindutva ideology, must stick to it and project a leader who has mass among Hindus, the VHP leader said.
Some forces were working to destabilise the country, he said.
A resolution was adopted at the Shivir condemning the arrest of Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi.
