Muslim Board condemns the arrest of Kanchi Seer

Muzaffarnagar (UP): Vice-president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Syed Kalbey Sadiq today (Nov 21, 2004) condemned the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi and said the manner in which the Hindu Pontiff was arrested was "shameful".

Talking to reporters in Muzaffarnagar, the Shia leader said the issue of the Kanchi Seer's arrest should not be politicised.

Meanwhile, some members of the Muslim community in the city today burnt the effigy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to protest the arrest of the Seer.

The protestors, led by Haji Ahsan, city president of the Udyog Vyapar Mandal, also raised slogans demanding the immediate release of the Shankaracharya.
