Seer's arrest: BJP, VHP call for Jammu bandh
Sunday, November 21 2004 18:19 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) today (Nov 21, 2004) called for a bandh in Jammu tomorrow (Nov 22, 2004) as part of the saffron party's nationwide stir to protest the police remand of Kanchi Shankaracharya.

The bandh call was given keeping in view the "un-lawful" arrest of Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamkoti Peetham by Tamil Nadu Government, BJP and VHP spokesman said in Jammu.

The VHP spokesman appealed to religious, social and trading organisations to observe a complete Jammu bandh.

Terming the arrest of Shankaracharya as a "political" conspiracy and a "hasty step" of the Tamil Nadu Government, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Jammu has said it will support the bandh call.

Calling for the intervention of the Centre in the matter, Sabha warned that if the Government fails to fulfil the demand, it will join hands with other Hindu organisations to launch a country-wide struggle.
