Cong trying to weaken & destabilise my Govt: Mulayam Sunday, November 21 2004 18:53 Hrs (IST)
Jhansi (UP):
Samajwadi Party (SP) president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Nov 21, 2004) charged the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government at the Centre with trying to "weaken and destabilise" his Government by adopting a "discriminatory attitude" towards it.
Yadav, who was addressing partymen on the inaugural day of the two-day SP State-level workers' convention in Jhansi, however had words of praise for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"Singh is an honest man and has a clean image but the Congress, which controls the Prime Minister, is targeting the Samajwadi Party and its Government in the State," he said.
"The statements being given by Congress leaders clearly prove that it wants to weaken and destabilise our Government," he said adding it (Congress) will not succeed in its efforts.
He also appealed to the "socialist" and "Gandhian" forces in the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) to help establish a third progressive political force in the country.
"This will not be possible until the socialist and Gandhian forces in the NDA come together with the help of the Left and form an anti-Congress and anti-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) platform," Yadav said.
He also lashed out at the BJP for trying to "rake up emotive issues" and said that the "deviation from the real issues has heralded doom for the saffron party".
