Seer arrest: 'A question of self-respect & honour' Sunday, November 21 2004 18:00 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Coming out strongly in support of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi who is currently in police custody in a murder case, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Najma Heptullah today (Nov 21, 2004) said the arrest "was not just concerning Hindu religion but respect and dignity of the people of India."
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi at the ongoing dharna and fast by BJP leaders to protest against the arrest and police custody of the Seer, she said that neither the Centre nor the State Government can absolve of its responsibility on the matter on the excuse that the issue was before the court.
"It is a question of self-respect and honour and the Centre cannot put the blame on the State Government and vice versa and then putting the entire issue to the court," Heptullah said.
