Kanchi Seer under interrogation for the third day Sunday, November 21 2004 17:15 Hrs (IST)
Kancheepuram:
For the third day today (Nov 21, 2004) police continued questioning Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi, who was arrested on November 11 in connection with the murder of a former temple official.
The Acharya 'is not in any angry or uncooperative mood', but was mostly replying in the negative to queries. He slept most of the time, since he seemed to be exhausted, police said.
The interrogation is being carried out by superintendent of police, Kanchi, Davidson and ADSP Sakthivel.
Meanwhile, the mutt spokesman R Sankaran said that a legal team was deliberating on the future course of action of moving the Supreme Court.
To a question on why the junior Pontiff Vijendra Saraswathi had not yet met the senior Seer, he said steps are being taken in this regard. "I cannot reveal everything".
He said the mutt was in the dark about what the doctor or lawyer had said about the Acharya's health condition.
Sankaran replied in the affirmative when asked if normal activities were continuing at the mutt as before.
Meanwhile, advertisements have appeared in leading newspapers, giving details of the welfare activities carried out by the mutt, the Acharya's 'hard work and sacrifice' in the service of the common man for the past 50 years.
Probably referring to the arrest of the Seer, another advertisement says that 'there are dark clouds in the horizon, which, like all other clouds, will disappear one day.'
Asked whether these advertisements would continue, Sankaran said that the public were merely being informed of the good work done by the mutt.
He also claimed that over 15,000 signatories had sent e-mails, campaigning for justice and expressing sorrow over the Acharya's arrest.
