Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today (Nov 22, 2004) announced that she had ordered a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Sankararaman, the murdered Varadarajaperumal temple manager.

Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, she said that Padma, the widow of Sankararaman who was murdered in the temple complex at Kancheepuram on Sept 3, 2004, had sought financial help as her family was under utter poverty and the children were unable to continue their education.

Accepting her request the Chief Minister had ordered sanction of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister's relief fund, she said.
