Fencing will check infiltration from Bangladesh: BSF Tuesday, November 23 2004 14:27 Hrs (IST)
Agartala:
The barbed wire fencing along the international border with Bangladesh would check infiltration and illegal entry of insurgents of North East from the neighbouring country, director general of BSF (Border Security Force) Ajai Sharma said today (Nov 23, 2004).
The progress of erection of the fencing is satisfactory, he said adding it is the only viable option for India to check any kind of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, the senior BSF official told reporters in Agartala.
Erection of the fencing has considerably reduced the movement of insurgents of the North East region who have their base camps in Bangladesh and also the infiltration from that country, Sharma said.
To a question he said the ISI was fully aiding the insurgents on Bangladesh soil by giving them training and many other supports.
Sharma who is to retire from the job next month said an amount of Rs 75 lakh had been sanctioned for modernising the force guarding Tripura, Cachar and Mizoram (TCM) border.
