Chidambaram's erstwhile party to merge with Cong
Tuesday, November 23 2004 22:18 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Finance Minister P Chidambaram's erstwhile party 'Congress Jananayaga Peravai" (Democratic Forum) will merge with Congress on Thursday (Nov 23, 2004).

The merger ceremony, being held in New Delhi, would complete the process of homecoming of the followers of Chidambaram, who had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu on Congress ticket.

The Peravai is an offshoot of the Tamil Maanila Congress led by late G K Moopanar, which had merged, with Congress some two years back.

AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary Ambika Soni, who was today given additional charge of Tamil Nadu affairs in the party, made the announcement about the merger.
