Manipur rebels reject peace talks with Centre
Tuesday, November 23 2004 18:56 Hrs (IST)

Imphal: A major insurgent group, United National Liberation Front (UNLF), today (Nov 23, 2004) said it would not hold 'peace talks' with the Centre and continue its armed struggle till 'an independent Manipur' was achieved.

In a statement issued in Imphal, it said UNLF was convinced that people in the State would ''never accept such a proposition (for peace talks)''.

However, UNLF said its cadres were prepared to lay down arms if the United Nations intervened in the present armed conflict.

Official sources said UNLF was set up on Nov 24, 1964 and would complete its 40 years tomorrow (Nov 24, 2004).
