Musharraf's formula on JK meant for debate in Pak Wednesday, November 24 2004 16:56 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz today (Nov 24, 2004) said progress on resolving the Kashmir problem will have to be made in tandem with progress on other issues.
"As regards Jammu and Kashmir, we believe this is an issue we all need to discuss and address. Progress on other issues will be made in tandem with progress on Jammu and
Kashmir," Aziz told reporters after his luncheon meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
Aziz made it clear that he did not carry to the Indian side President Pervez Musharraf's recent formulation on Kashmir, which he said was meant for public debate in Pakistan.
"No proposals were presented to India. No reaction was expected from India," he said adding that during his meeting with Singh it came up as a matter of information.
On Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, Aziz said the two countries have to sort out issues like travel documents for use by passengers.
It would come up for detailed discussion at the Foreign Secretary level talks next month. A lot of details have to be sorted out then, he said.
He said the dialogue process would continue and Pakistan wanted peace with all neighbours including India with which it favoured settlement of all issues in a friendly manner to the benefit of the entire region.
Aziz said the status of composite dialogue and the confidence building measures came up for discussions with Singh.
On gas pipeline, he said Pakistan would like India to participate in the project. If India had other sources of energy then Pakistan is going ahead with the project, he added.
He parried questions on his long meeting with Hurriyat leaders last night.
