Pak PM's visit has not yielded results: BJP Friday, November 26 2004 10:04 Hrs (IST)
Ranchi:
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) said Pakistan Premier Shaukat Aziz's visit to India had "failed" to produce any result and termed as "unwarranted and unacceptable" Islamabad's demand that Hurriyat be included as a third party in the dialogue process between the two countries.
"Pakistan Prime Minister's recent visit to India has failed to produce any result. No progress has been made even on such confidence-building measures as Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service.
"He also failed to officially convey to India President Pervez Musharraf's publicly announced proposals on Jammu and Kashmir," said a resolution on foreign policy adopted at the party's on-going National Executive meeting in New Delhi.
Briefing reporters on the resolution, former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said, "The BJP National Executive completely rejects the proposals of President Musharraf on Jammu and Kashmir which is and will always remain an integral part of India."
The resolution charged the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government with failure in carrying forward the Vajpayee Government's initiative to engage all groups in the State including the Hurriyat in the dialogue process.
"It is ridiculous that Hurriyat leaders travelled to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister of Pakistan while at the same time they refused to meet the Prime Minster or the Home Minister of India. This clearly shows where their loyalty rests."
The party regretted that the earlier understanding between the two countries of not talking to each other through the media stood abandoned.
"Issues between India and Pakistan are complex and are of long-standing. There is no quick-fix solution. Both sides need great patience to deal with them," the resolution said.
