Hindutva ideology is BJP's internal matter: Mamata
Friday, November 26 2004 19:13 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today (Nov 26, 2004) said that BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)'s return to its core ideology of Hindutva was its internal matter and had nothing to do with the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) agenda.

"It is absolutely their (BJP) internal matter. All political parties have their own ideology and they have got recognition from the Election Commission. We have nothing to say about it. But NDA agenda and individual party agenda are different," Banerjee said when newsmen sought her comment on BJP's return to Hindutva.

Banerjee said that the NDA also had a common minimum programme though its constituents have separate ideologies and outlook.

Trinamool Congress, she said, has made its position very clear that it believed in secularism.

Turning to the UPA (United Progress Alliance) Government's move to roll back the decision to hike domestic LPG price by Rs 5 every month under pressure from the Left, the TC supremo said "it was done with an eye on the forthcoming Parliament session".

"I know this technique. The UPA Government will again hike fuel price after two/three months. It had hiked petrol prices thrice after coming to power besides hiking coal price," she said.

Banerjee said that the UPA Government's decision to increase railway freight would have its cascading effect on the price of essential commodities.
