Sole agenda to bring Seer out of prison: Mutt
Friday, November 26 2004 22:30 Hrs (IST)

Kancheepuram: Making it clear that the Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi did not intend moving the Supreme Court, a top official of the Sankara Mutt today (Nov 26, 2004) said that their ''sole agenda'' was to bring him out of prison.

Speaking to reporters in Kancheepuram, the Mutt manager, Sundaresa Iyer pointed out that the Mutt had separately moved the Sessions court and the High Court for bail plea in respect of two cases against the Seer.

He reacted angrily to a question on who the successor to the Seer would be, saying no such thing was in the offing.

To another question on whether Jayendra Saraswathi would continue to perform pujas in the event of his return to the Mutt, he shot back "Who the press to decide or question these things. Of course he will. It is his own decision".

He also came down on the media "for conducting a no holds barred campaign, full of blasphemy, scandals and falsehood".

Sundaresa Iyer replied in the negative when asked whether the Junior Pontiff planned to meet Jayendra Saraswathi in prison. The Mutt had decided against it as there would inevitably be a horde of reporters "asking unnecessary questions'' and also a heavy posse of policemen, he said.
