Kolkata:
City's downtown Park Street would be named after Mother Teresa and a bust of the Mother would be installed at the crossing of Park Street and Camac Street on Dec 11, 2004 Kolkata Mayor Subrata Mukherjee today (Nov 26, 2004) said.
Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar would unveil the Mother's bust while Trinamool Congress Chief and former Union Minister Mamata Banerjee would unveil the plaque renaming the Park Street, Mukherjee told newsmen in Kolkata.
The head of Missionaries of Charity Sister Nirmala would also be present as the chief guest at the function.
The Mayor said that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation had sent letter to the Vatican requesting for their representation, ''but the Vatican expressed their inability to send anyone until the Mother attained Sainthood''.
''We have informed the Vatican that we cannot wait so long and we are organising the ceremony on Dec 11, 2004'', he said.
Mukherjee also said that the city corporation has decided to rename the Park Street since Mother Teresa used to stay there earlier.
A full statue of Mother Teresa would be installed later, he said.
