'India not ready to accept ground realities in JK'
Saturday, November 27 2004 16:41 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Insisting that Hurriyat Conference is the real representative of Kashmiris, Pakistan has claimed that India is not ready to accept ground realities in Kashmir.

Reacting to External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh's assertions that there was "something fundamentally wrong" with Pakistan's understanding of realities in Jammu and Kashmir if it thought that the Hurriyat was the only representative of Kashmiris, foreign office spokesman Masood Khan said that the Indian Minister's stand was "tantamount to sheer negation of facts", local daily 'The Nation' reported today (Nov 27, 2004).

Spotlight: Kashmir is NOT negotiable

Claiming that India was not ready to accept the ground realities in Kashmir, he said that contrary to Singh's statement, the Hurriyat leaders are the real representatives of the Kashmiri people and India would have to "accede" to this "obvious fact".

He said that the Hurriyat leaders have asked the Indian authorities to allow them to visit Pakistan to hold talks with the Kashmiri leaders on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) as well as the Pakistani leadership. However, so far the Indian Government has not accepted their request.
