Kannada film industry crippled by partial bandh Monday, November 29 2004 16:20 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Activities in the Kannada film industry were crippled with some producers halting production and shooting of films as part of their intensified stir against violation of three-week moratorium on release of non-Kannada films by six exhibitors in Bangalore city.
Production, dubbing, recording and shooting of some of the Kannada films came to a grinding halt, film industry sources said.
However, when contacted president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, H D Gangaraju said, "Only some producers who are members of the Kannada Producers' Association have stopped production and shooting of films. The others are carrying on with work. We are in no way connected with bandh," he said.
On the recent siege laid on the Chamber by some Kannada film activists, producers, directors accusing the former of "siding with the non-Kannada lobby" and hanging up a name board as Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce, he said, "These actions have been condemned by the executive committee."
"One cannot change the name of a constituted body just like that. There are no bye-laws which permit it. The office bearers have been authorised to take action against those who indulged in such vandalism," Gangaraju said.
