Monday, November 29 2004 19:37 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Sushma Swaraj today (Nov 29, 2004) said Tamil Nadu Government was adopting "vindictive" attitude towards the Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi.

"I am shocked by his arrest on the charge of murder," she told reporters at the airport in Chennai.

Asked for her comments on cases being filed against him, she said the murder case had been weakened due to a key accused turning hostile and old cases were being dug up and foisted against him.

She later left for Vellore to call on the Shankaracharya, who had been lodged in the central prison.
