'ULFA & KLO making base in Indo-Nepal border' Monday, November 29 2004 20:53 Hrs (IST)

ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) of Assam and KLO (Kamtapur Liberation Organisation) of North Bengal were out to create a militant base in Thapa district of Nepal bordering Darjeeling district of North Bengal with the active support and participation of Nepal Maoists, inspector general of North Bengal Frontier of BSF (Border Security Force), S K Dutta said in Siliguri today (Nov 29, 2004).
Stating the situation as 'alarming' Dutta told reporters at the frontier headquarter at Kadamtala, he said BSF had sufficient evidence of activities of Indian militant outfits in Nepal who were now trying hard to set up four camps in Thapa. Around 50 militants 25 each of ULFA and KLO who were now in Thapa having close co-ordination with Nepal Maoists.
BSF also had a primary information that the KLO militant scattered after operation 'flush-out' by Royal Bhutan Army in December last year in the Himalayan Kingdom were trying to reorganise Kalikhola camp in Bhutan Dutta said.
Meanwhile intelligence source said that the KLO chief Tamir Das, alias Jiban Singh with one of his associate, Abinash Adhikari had expressed desire to surrender with arms. They were now sheltering in a camp in Bangladesh. The date, time and venue of surrender however were not disclosed by the source.
Regarding Indo-Bangla border in North Bengal the BSF inspector General said that 102 more border outposts would soon be set up along the border in addition to the existing 197 BOPs to effectively control trans-border crime and infiltration.
