Monday, November 29 2004 14:42 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Zaheera Shaikh, prime witness in the Best Bakery case, today (Nov 29, 2004) came to the trial court in Mumbai amidst tight police security to give her testimony in the post-Godhra riot incident in which 14 persons were killed on March 1, 2002.

However, she would depose after the cross-examination of her estranged sister-in-law Yasmin was over, prosecution sources said.

This is the second time that Zaheera has been summoned by the court.

Earlier, she failed to turn up before the court on Nov 4, 2004 and the court had issued fresh summons, which was returnable on Nov 17, 2004.

On the appointed day, her lawyer appeared before the court and assured that Zaheera would come as and when required.

On Nov 3, 2004, Zaheera, in a turnaround, affirmed before the Vadodara collector saying she was being pressurised by social activist Teesta Setalvad to identify innocent persons as accused in the Mumbai court conducting re-trial in Best Bakery case.

She also said that her original testimony before the fast track court in Gujarat was true.
