Ask your Ministers to behave or quit: BJP to PM
Tuesday, November 30 2004 19:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is all set to corner the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government in the winter session of Parliament beginning tomorrow (Dec 1, 2004) on issues ranging from the "treatment" meted out to Kanchi Shankaracharya to inflation and internal security even as the party today sought an explanation from the Prime Minister on the spat between his ministers.

BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra said while the party was in favour of smooth transaction of Parliamentary business, "we have made it clear that the responsibility (for smooth functioning) lies with the Government, if it does not rein in its supporters".

The party, which has given 65 notices, would launch its attack on the Government by raising the issue of price rise during the zero hour tomorrow even as its leaders including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani would take to the streets by leading a protest march on the issue from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament House, he said.

Asserting that the ongoing spat between Union Ministers Laloo Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was unprecedented" in the democratic world, he said, "It shows the Prime Minister's helplessness. The collective responsibility of the Parliament has been shattered to pieces. If Manmohan Singh cannot rein in his Ministers, he has no right to hold the office".

"The Prime Minister owes an explanation to the nation of what type of Cabinet and Government he is heading," the BJP leader said, adding the party has sought permission from the Speaker to raise the spat between the ministers as a Short Duration Discussion or Motion of Privilege on Dec 2, 2004.
