BJP rally against UPA policies in Delhi tomorrow Tuesday, November 30 2004 16:00 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
In an effort to step up pressure on the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government, top BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leadership, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and party president L K Advani, will hit the roads in New Delhi tomorrow (Dec 1, 2004) to protest against the rising inflation.
Vajpayee and Advani along with all MPs and MLAs will court arrest during the protest rally and march to coincide with the commencement of winter session of Parliament, party vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today (Nov 29, 2004).
Vajpayee will be courting arrest after nearly 30 years (the last time he went to prison was during the Emergency period). Advani will also be courting arrest after nearly a decade as the last time he was jailed was during his rath yatra in Bihar in 1992.
The protestors, who will include BJP leaders and activists from across the country, will gather in Ramlila ground from where they will march towards Parliament, Naqvi said.
Some NDA (National Democratic Alliance) leaders are also likely to participate in the programme to be led by Advani, he said.
"We were not expecting that we will have to hit the roads so soon after the new Government came in. But the anti-people policies of the Manmohan Singh Government have compelled us to resort to such a measure," the BJP leader said.
