Seer arrest: 'Jaya latest victim of minorityism'
Tuesday, November 30 2004 21:29 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), which had sung paeans to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during her honeymoon with Hindutva, has attacked her for the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya saying she has become the "latest victim of minorityism and politics of vote bank".

Sangh mouthpiece 'Panchjanya' in its latest issue said the attack on a Hindu institution (Kanchi Math) in a Hindu-majority country "reflected the weakness and disorganised State of the Hindu society".

Spotlight: Kanchi Jayendra Saraswathi's Arrest

Describing Jayalalithaa as the "latest victim of minorityism and politics of vote bank", the Sangh's English organ 'Organiser' said "it is unbelievable that an intelligent woman, religious and a true nationalist will fall prey to such secular shenanigans."

"With even Karunanidhi, the redoubtable DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) supremo, declaring the arrest a secular vendetta and the manner of arrest 'unacceptable', Jayalalithaa has not even the fig leaf of credibility left for justifying her action."

The 'Organiser', however, said it would be "foolish" to consider the subdued Hindu reaction to the Seer's arrest as "an expression of slumber".
