BJP accuses UPA Government of 'cheating' people
Wednesday, December 1 2004 14:19 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Hitting out at the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Dec 1, 2004) accused the ruling Congress-led coalition of having committed "deceit" with the people.

Addressing a rally to protest against the rising inflation, party President L K Advani charged the Congress with having links with ULFA (United Liberation front of Assam) and naxalites to win the last elections.

"There was a slogan - 'Congress ka haath, aam aadmi ke saath' (Congress' hand is with common people). But now we can say the Congress' hand is not with the people but it has committed deceit," he charged.

Advani alleged that during the last seven months of UPA rule, the "trust" that the national security is safe has vanished. "During the six-year-rule of the Vajpayee Government, there was the trust that the national security is safe. But now that is broken," he said.

Advani alleged that while Bhutan had launched a special operation to flush ULFA from its territory, "unfortunately, the Congress made an agreement with the ULFA just to win elections in Assam."

In Andhra Pradesh, he alleged, the Congress had a pact with naxalites during the elections that if it comes to power, it will lift the ban on them. "And they (Congress Government) did it," the BJP leader charged.
