Army takes action on two jawans over molestation
Wednesday, December 1 2004 17:23 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: The Army has taken strong action against two sepoys attached to the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) at Vairengte, Mizoram for molesting a woman on the night on October 24, a Defence press release said in Kolkata today (Dec 1, 2004).

''Two soldiers were identified as having committed the offence. While one has been dismissed from service, the other has been severely reprimanded and prematurely dismissed from service,'' the release said.

According to a report the woman was returning home after attending a church service when she was 'molested' by the jawans.

The incident triggered strong criticism from the women's organisations in Mizoram many of which demanded that the CIJWS be shifted out of the State.
