Kannada activists demand primacy in Railway jobs
Wednesday, December 1 2004 19:18 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Kannada activists today (Dec 1, 2004) detained two Mysore-bound trains demanding primacy for Kannadigas in Railway jobs in Karnataka as well as early approval for some Railway-related projects in the State.

The activists of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha and Kannada Rakshana Vedike held separate protests at the city Railway Station blocking push-pull and Shatabdi trains for a few minutes.

The Paksha's president Vatal Nagaraj accused the Centre of "step-motherly" treatment towards Karnataka in respect of various Railway projects. Many rail projects in northern Karnataka have been hanging fire for long, he alleged.

The Vedike has threatened to resort to State-wide rail-bandh if the demands were not met.
