Uma Bharti returns from vacation, meets Vajpayee
Wednesday, December 1 2004 10:25 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Suspended BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Uma Bharti, who returned to the capital after her vacation in the Himalayas, last night (Nov 30, 2004) met former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee amidst speculation that the party may revoke the disciplinary action taken against her.

Bharati's meeting with Vajpayee lasted for about 25 minutes. She however did not speak to the awaiting media persons.

Her meeting with Vajpayee comes barely three days after BJP president L K Advani's statement at the party's national executive in Ranchi that the party was willing to talk to her after her return from vacation in Kedarnath.

The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister was removed as party general secretary and suspended from its primary membership after she dared Advani to take action against her at the party's central office bearers meeting in full glare of television cameras earlier this month.

Blowing hot and cold, Bharati later wrote three letters. In the first letter she accused the party leadership of throwing their daughter out on 'Dhanteras' and claiming she did not find any element of indiscipline in her action.

In a second letter from Kedarnath addressed to her supporters, she urged them to keep mum on the action taken against her and to whole heartedly support the party.

In her latest letter ahead of the BJP national executive in Ranchi, Bharati said she was willing to apologise for her behaviour at the party meeting but said the BJP should also apologise to her for projecting her raising of ideological issue as an act of indiscipline.
