22 school children hurt as roof collapses in Kerala Thursday, December 2 2004 19:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Thiruvananthapuram:
Twenty-two students and three staff members of a Kerala Government lower primary school near Parasalla in the district escaped with injuries when the roof of the school building collapsed on them this afternoon (Dec 2, 2004).
The tiled roof and a portion of the building wall of the school at Moovellikara under Vellarda police station limits came down when the students were sitting in the class room during lunch break, police said.
All the children were admitted to Karakonam Somervel Memorial Medical College Hospital.
Seven children and the three staff were in the ICU of the hospital, sources said. The building was in a dilapidated condition, police said.
Though the condition of most of the injured was not serious many of them had injuries on head and limbs.
Mother of an injured child said some of the children had to be pulled out of the debris.
