Pakistan has so far not granted Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India despite its obligations including under the World Trade Organisation regime, Rajya Sabha was informed today (Dec 2, 2004).
Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said in a written reply that Pakistan has cited extraneous political and other reasons for not granting MFN status to India.
Government has drawn attention to Pakistan's obligations to grant MFN status to India and that this step would serve as an indicator of Islamabad's intention to improve bilateral and regional economic cooperation and to have normal trade and economic relations, Ahamed said.
The Government launched the Unorganised Sector Worker's Social Security Scheme, 2004 on a pilot basis in 50 districts covering all States/UTs except Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshadweep, Labour and Employment minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said.
About 3,500 unorganised workers have been registered under the scheme, he said adding that the scheme is being re-worked in consultation with the Planning Commission and ministry of Finance.
