Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Charminar area of the city today (Dec 3, 2004) when a violent crowd after Friday prayers, indulged in stone-pelting and damaged few State transport buses to protest the December 1 Madannapet incident, police said in Hyderabad.

Police used mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd, which also damaged a fire engine and a private car in stone throwing, police said adding, no one was injured in the incident.

Some slogan shouting youths came out of the Mosque after prayers and started pelting stones, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Charminar Zone, Shariffuddin said adding, the situation is completely under control.

"Patrolling in the area has been intensified and a strict vigil is being kept on some anti-social elements," he said.

Thirteen persons were injured in clashes between two communities at Madannapet on December 1 over the issue of hoisting a religious flag forcing the police to lathicharge and open fire.
