Kancheepuram:
Krishnasamy alias 'Appu', a key accused in the Sankararaman murder case, has been arrested at Puthur near Chitoor in Andhra Pradesh, police in Kancheepuram said.
The Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi has been arrested in connection with the case.
Appu is believed to be the kingpin who organised the killing of Sankararaman, the manager of the Varadaraja Perumal temple at Kancheepuram, in September.
Police had been on the look out for Appu in connection with the murder of Sankararaman on September 3.
A Division bench of the Madras High court on November 23 had stayed a single judge's order granting permission to Appu to go abroad for medical treatment.
Appu, against whom eight cases are pending, had approached the High Court seeking permission to go abroad for medical treatment and it was granted by Justice K Raviraja Pandian on November 4.
Police in their application seeking cancellation of the permission had contended that, in some cases the trial had commenced and posted to various dates for appearance of the accused.
Early this week, top officials of the special investigation team, probing the murder case, had said that the police team had zeroed in on Appu and that he would be arrested in a couple of days.
Meanwhile, Sundaresa Iyer, the Kanchi Mutt manager, was summoned to the Superintendent's office for questioning this morning. After an hour-long inquiry, the police escorted him in a vehicle to an unknown destination.
