'Kalyan's statement exposes BJP's double character' Friday, December 3 2004 20:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time
New Delhi:
Congress today (Dec 3, 2004) said that former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's reversal about the involvement of senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leaders, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, in the Babri Masjid demolition case has further exposed their "double character".
"Kalyan Singh's statement before the Liberhan Commission denying involvement of Vajpayee, Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and others in the demolition of Babri Masjid has once again exposed the BJP's character. After his expulsion from the party, Singh had alleged that these leaders were involved in it", party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters.
Assailing Singh's latest somersault, he said this has made clear the character of BJP leaders who speak according to time and circumstance.
"They speak according to time and circumstances. Today they are in Opposition and that is why once again invoking Ram," he said adding that Singh is now vice-president of the party and had even justified demolition of Babri Masjid saying, "This was destined to happen."
Stating that Kalyan Singh invoking divinity about the demolition after Advani claiming that BJP was the chosen one to rescue the nation should be taken seriously, Sharma said for six years BJP leaders were in a denial mood that they have nothing to do with the demolition, but when Advani was let off on technical grounds, other accused leaders were sore.
Singh today filed an affidavit before the Liberhan Commission saying his charge against senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi of being part of a "conspiracy" to demolish the disputed structure at Ayodhya was made "out of anger".
