Pakistan PM Shaukat Aziz praises ex-AP CM Naidu
Friday, December 3 2004 10:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time

Islamabad: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu yesterday (Dec 2, 2004) came in for praise from Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for putting development on the agenda of politics and making it a model for other countries in the region and the world.

"You have done very well and set a model for many other countries and the world to follow," Naidu quoted Aziz as saying after a 30 minute meeting.

"I am surprised by the knowledge and depth displayed by the Prime Minister about the projects we initiated in Andhra Pradesh during our tenure," Naidu told reporters.

They discussed power projects, village development schemes initiated by Naidu's Government as well as micro credit schemes and women empowerment projects. "The Prime Minister observed that during the tenure of Naidu, Andhra Pradesh achieved great progress in biotechnology and Information Technology, which led to the progress of India," an official release from Pakistan Government said.

When asked by Aziz, Naidu attributed his electoral defeat to draught and antipathy by the Government employees.

Naidu discussed the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan. Aziz expressed Pakistan's desire to have good relations with India and peaceful settlement of disputes.

Aziz told him he had a "very good" stay in New Delhi during his recent visit to India and held fruitful talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee. Describing India and Pakistan as estranged brothers, Naidu said despite differences, the love and affection between the people of the two countries should not be undermined.

Naidu, along with four MPs of his party presented Aziz a replica of 'Jinnah Tower' in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh in 1932.
