'Seer's arrest larger than a political conspiracy'
Friday, December 3 2004 21:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time

Bhopal: Alleging a "larger than a political conspiracy" in the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi and warning political parties supporting the move in Tamil Nadu that it would cost them dear, RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) today (Dec 3, 2004) asked them not to test patience of Hindu community and set free the Seer.

"Don't test the patience of Hindu community. Examples of consequences that will follow are abundant, before independence. Set Shankaracharya free and let law find the guilty," RSS spokesman Ram Madhav said at a seminar organised by Vishwa Samwad Kendra in Bhopal.

A survey showed that 60 per cent of the people are angry by the Seer's arrest. But they are not finding avenues to express it, he said adding, Hindus are basically peaceful as they have yet not resorted to violence and 'people' should be happy for it.

Terming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa a 'dictator', the RSS spokesman alleged that she has tried to choke any opposition by exploring legal avenues even in case of mediapersons.

"There are political parties, barring some like BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), who have either kept quiet or have supported her in Shankaracharya's arrest. I warn them that supporting a 'dictator' would cost them dead," Madhav said.

Alleging ill-treatment to Shankaracharya by the police, Madhav said "there is a conspiracy larger than political conspiracy fuelled by perverted philosophy. Tamil Nadu Government had used hardened criminals to implicate and fix charges on the Shankaracharya."
