Panaji:
One of Hollywood's biggest financiers has decided to stand guarantor for bank loans, of Indian filmmakers, but says producers in Panaji must change their style of functioning if they want his services in the long run.
Richard Soames, president of Film Financiers incorporated, one of the world's largest such firms is in Goa to attend the International Film Festival at the invitation of the Indian Government.
He says his company has stood guarantor for over a billion Dollars worth of film loans all over the world in the past year and India is his next destination.
We stand guarantor for films when they avail of bank loans, we make sure that the film stays within the budget that has been drawn up and is completed in time. If it comes to the crunch we also reserve the right to take over the film and complete it but that happens in the rarest of rare cases, Soames said in an interview in Panaji.
Soames has financed several films made by Indian producer, including Ismail Merchant and Mira Nair.
"I have done all of Merchant-Ivory films. I am also doing Mira Nair's next movie 'The Namesake'," he says.
