Bakery case: Prosecution requests Saira's detention Saturday, December 4 2004 18:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Mumbai:
The prosecution today (Dec 4, 2004) requested the Special Court conducting the re-trial in the Best Bakery case, to detain Saira Sheikh, sister of prime witness Zaheera Sheikh, in Mumbai till Monday to prevent her from getting influenced by someone and distort the evidence.
Prosecutor Manjula Rao moved an application before the Special Court to detain Saira in Mumbai tomorrow saying she had enough reasons to believe that Saira's evidences may get influenced if she goes back to Vadodara.
The defence objected to it and said that there is no provision under the law to allow Saira's detention under the court custody.
The court asked Saira if she would like to stay back tomorrow but she refused saying that she needs to go back as her mother is unwell.
The court has called for Kalamuddin, Saira's husband, who is at a guesthouse in Central Mumbai. The Court will decide whether Saira would be asked to stay back till Kalamuddin appears before it this evening.
