K'taka: JDS to fight Cong, BJP in local body polls Saturday, December 4 2004 19:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Bangalore:
Deciding to retain its political ideology of maintaining equi-distance from its coalition Government partner Congress and Opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), the Karnataka unit JDS (Janata Dal-Secular) today (Dec 4, 2004) decided to fight against them in the coming local bodies elections due in February.
Ahead of this poll, the party's State unit office bearers at a meeting held in Bangalore resolved to gear up by organising workers meetings in all districts from December third week to January end.
The meeting presided over by the State unit president N Thippanna and working president HD Kumaraswamy, expressed displeasure over delay in appointment of new chiefs to boards and corporations under the power sharing agreement reached between the party and Congress while forming the coalition Government, the party spokesman, YSV Datta said in a release.
It resolved to mount pressure on the party leadership that boards and corporations also be restructured along with the ministry expansion, expected shortly.
In the event of delay in re-constitution of boards and corporations, the Congress should secure the resignations from the incumbent chairman, he said.
Kumaraswamy told the meeting that in a week time he would announce new programmes to strengthen the party.
