NCP to attend swearing-in ceremony of Krishna Saturday, December 4 2004 18:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Mumbai:
Ruling out any differences with the Congress in appointment of SM Krishna as Governor of Maharashtra, NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) today (Dec 4, 2004) said it would not boycott the swearing-in ceremony of the new Governor on December 6.
"The views on the appointment of Krishna as the Governor of Maharashtra were that of the party and were not at personal level," NCP general secretary D P Tripathi told reporters in Mumbai.
He said in democracy and alliance politics, every party has the independence of expressing their views taking into account their limitations.
The party is committed to dignity and humility, Tripathi said.
On the party complaint that Congress had not consulted them before appointing Krishna as the new Maharashtra Governor, the NCP general secretary said the communication between the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) partners was not as expected.
The NCP has made certain suggestions in this regard and it has been decided to have regular consultation between the ruling alliance partner, he added.
Triparthi, who is also in-charge of party affairs in Maharashtra, said the NCP has emerged as most significant party in the State after it won eight of the 12 seats in the elections to the Upper house of State Legislature.
The election performance has not created rift among the two parties, but there was a misunderstanding which would be sorted out soon, he added.
