No announcements on F-16 planes deal to Pak: US Saturday, December 4 2004 15:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Washington:
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is in Washington for talks with his US counterpart George W Bush. US is not expected to announce a deal on the sale of F-16 fighter planes to Islamabad during the General's visit.
"I don't expect any such announcements on matters like that (sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan) at this time," White House Scott McClellan told reporters in Washington yesterday (Dec 3, 2004).
When asked whether Bush was satisfied with everything that Musharraf and his Government were doing in the hunt for al-Qaeda and, specifically, Osama bin Laden, McClellan said, "I think there is always more that can be done. But we have had good close cooperation with Pakistan in going after some of the remnants of the Taliban and al-Qaeda members. And we are going to continue working closely with them. We have good intelligence cooperation and this is something that is a priority for both our nations."
About the Bush-Musharraf meeting scheduled to take place later in the day, McClellan said, "It will be an opportunity to talk about our bilateral relationship as well, and to talk about regional issues, like the situation between India and Pakistan."
