India to display 3 indigenous aircrafts to Putin Saturday, December 4 2004 16:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Bangalore:
India will display the prowess of the three home-grown aircraft - Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) and the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) before Russian President Vladimir Putin leaves for Moscow from Bangalore tomorrow (Dec 5, 2004).
The Russian President will watch the flying display of the three aircraft that have been designed and developed by Indian engineers and later witness their static display, besides the Sukhoi-30 MKI, the fourth generation supersonic fighter built by Russia for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
"The flying display will demonstrate to the Russians what India has achieved in the Aeronautics field," a Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) source told reporters.
Russia is contributing its mite to India's aircraft programme by allowing the 'Kaveri' engine, the power plant for the LCA, to undergo high altitude tests in Moscow and also with its engine firm Lyulka NPS Saturn beginning to build a higher thrust engine to be fitted in the IJT.
HAL officials said Putin may have a peek into the three aircraft before embarking on his return to Russia.
Putin would address a joint CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) business meet today evening (Dec 4, 2004) in Bangalore.
He will visit software major Infosys Technologies in the morning tomorrow and later arrive at the HAL airport for the flying display before his trip back home.
