Advani attacks UPA Govt for its 'wrong policies' Sunday, December 5 2004 17:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time
Bhopal:
Accusing Congress of endangering internal security of the country, especially by striking 'an agreement' with the naxalites for political gains, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president L K Advani today (Dec 5, 2004) said the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government had neglected the river linking and road projects mooted by NDA (National Democratic Alliance), besides failing to control soaring inflation.
"Ever since Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) came to power at the Centre, situation has deteriorated in the Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir and naxalite-torn States due to its wrong policies," Advani said at a 'Vijay Utsav' in Bhopal to felicitate over 4000 BJP leaders elected in recent urban bodies polls in Madhya Pradesh.
"It is unfortunate that vote bank politics had motivated compromise on internal security as the Congress lifted bans on naxalite groups like People's War Group (PWG) in Andhra
Pradesh and struck an agreement with them to start the dialogue process without asking them to lay down arms," he said.
The situation is equally alarming in Jammu and Kashmir despite marginal reduction in cross-border infiltration, which was a result of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's peace initiatives with Pakistan, the BJP president said adding, "terrorist infrastructure still exists there (Pakistan)".
Mounting a scathing attack on the Centre on development projects and soaring prices, Advani said, in the last six-seven months, works towards construction of highways and river linking project have been neglected.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should do something about the casual approach adopted by his Government towards the projects (road and river)," Advani said.
Stating that the price rise was never taken up as an issue in the Parliament during BJP-led NDA rule despite disasters like drought, floods and earthquakes, he said inflation was kept under control due to constant monitoring by the Cabinet sub-committee, which was not the case now.
Claiming that BJP was champion of 'genuine secularism' where individuals were not differentiated on the basis of religion, Advani said Congress, on the other hand, was "misleading people through its concept of fake secularism, as done in case of Ayodhya, prompting BJP to act".
Narrating BJP's political struggle, Advani said it has worked with a principle of "nation first... Nation foremost" and would be celebrating its silver jubilee in April next year.
BJP has chosen right issues to soar its popularity graph and six years of its rule at the Centre was marked by significant achievements including Pokhran-II, he said adding "the endeavour of polarising Indian politics from one-party system created by Congress, which took two-three decades, was achieved".
Asking party's elected representatives to move ahead with honest goals, Advani said, "Madhya Pradesh has been a real laboratory for BJP to deduce its reach in the country and extent of fulfilment of its dreams."
