Census mistakes: 'Action taken against official' Tuesday, December 7 2004 13:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time
New Delhi:
The Home Secretary had conducted an inquiry into mistakes committed during the census and appropriate action had been taken against the concerned official, Lok Sabha was informed today (Dec 7, 2004).
Replying to a spate of queries regarding the census report, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said, "The Home Secretary had conducted an inquiry and the officer responsible has been sent back to his cadre and action taken against him."
To a query by Anandrao Adsul (Shiv Sena) whether the Government proposed to bring a uniform civil code to balance the population growth, the Minister said, "Common civil code has no relevance here."
When Adsul's party colleague Mohan Rawale wanted to know why no common civil code existed for all religions, he was not allowed by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to raise the matter leading to the member's walkout from the House.
To a question by Ramdas Athawale of RPI (Republican Party of India) on the need to have a law for controlling population, Patil said, "This is not related to the subject and it is for the Law Ministry to deal with it."
