Top secret security files found on London street Tuesday, December 7 2004 21:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time
London:
Top secret files detailing security arrangements for Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on his visit to Britain this week were found on a London street and an investigation is on into the circumstances surrounding the loss of the documents.
The dossier, which minutely revealed the President's movements plus confidential police radio channels, call signs and codes, was found by a delivery driver in a street in Mayfair and gave it to the 'Mirror' newspaper, which handed it over to the Scotland Yard.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said President Musharraf's safety had not been compromised, as the papers had been handed in promptly.
"We cannot discuss who was responsible for the documents, only that they contained the policing arrangements for the official visit," he said adding that the force's Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating the circumstances surrounding the loss of the documents.
The daily Mirror said the main 17-page document titled 'Visit of His Excellency General Pervez Musharraf, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan' and signed by Metropolitan Commissioner Sir John Stevens was found abandoned hours before Musharraf and his wife Begum Sahba touched down at Heathrow airport from Washington on Sunday night (Dec 5, 2004).
The files disclose security arrangements at the London hotel where the president and his entourage are staying and feature maps showing the General's movements.
