Tuesday, December 7 2004 19:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Dec 7, 2004) assured that the Employment Guarantee Bill, assuring jobs for at least 100 days a year for poor families, will be introduced in Lok Sabha within December 15.

Singh gave this assurance to CPI (Communist Party of India) national secretary D Raja when he called on the Prime Minister this afternoon, the Left leader told reporters in New Delhi.

"I had asked about the fate of the Bill in the last coordination committee meeting of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) and the Prime Minister had said it was under the active consideration of the Finance Ministry.

"Today, when I raised the issue again, he assured that the bill will be introduced within December 15," Raja said.

The UPA Government in its Common Minimum Programme (CPM) had promised to introduce a scheme to provide employment for at least 100 days to poor families.
