Tuesday, December 7 2004 15:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time

New Delhi: Government has laid down new guidelines and procedures for import of metallic scrap and waste after ten persons were killed when missiles exploded in a Ghaziabad factory this September, Lok Sabha was informed today (Dec 7, 2004).

Several remedial measures were taken regarding screening of scrap and ensure that rockets, mortars or shells are not dumped by factory owners on roads, river beds or other public places, Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal said during Question Hour.

He said the Defence Ministry, National Security Guards and para-military forces like BSF and ITBP have been urged to instruct all their field formations to render assistance in this regard to State Governments in detecting and disposing recovered shells and rockets.
